Taming The Terrible Twos

Q: How can I teach rules to my child going through the terrible two phase?
A: Everyone has heard the saying of "the terrible twos" but until you parent the two year old you may never get the full effect. I have received questions about how long the terrible twos behavior can last, actually it can last between ages 2-4 years of age. The two year old is known as the explorer who explores things by touching, climbing, and the like. In this age stage, also comes the temper tantrums, screaming, and crying. Establishing ground rules are very important for this age group. Here are a few tips for taming the two year olds.
Start by baby proofing your house. The two year old will start more on grabbing and touching everything that seems curious to them. Some things they know not to touch. Keep all things that can be harmful or dangerous to your child put away and locked.
Teach your child the rules in a way they can understand. Two year olds thinks everything is a game, so teach the rules in a fun but serious manner. Write the rules down, sing them, and let them repeat the rules and explain the consequences for breaking the rules.
Use discipline actions for temper tantrums. Using effective discipline actions for temper tantrums will help to eliminate these actions. You have to stay firm on the discipline actions with a two year old and establish your role as the parent, because they will push to see how much they can get away with.
I hope these few tips will help with taming your two year old and establishing some ground rules. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them in the comments section and I will respond back. Thanks and God Bless.
